Fiona's Coco and Cloves Henna Treatment

Happy Sunday Everyone...

Some of you may already know I am a Stone Cold Henna Junkie! I have had gray hair at the roots since I was 13 yrs old. Henna makes my roots look like somebody lit a match and set them ON FY-YA!!

I really DID NOT want to go the indigo route. I am extremely fond of my red hair. My problem was I had the "rusty copper roots". Those roots were taking on a life of their own and they needed to be stopped before someone got hurt....

So began the search for something that could be done other than looking for that "shoe polish" black hair dye...

One site that I go to on a daily basis is Curly Nikki.

Golden nuggets fall like raindrops on her site, and I found a receipe from one of CurlyNikki's Henna forums. It was a post by Free2Be. She did a coco henna treatment. I changed her receipe a bit, simply because I was using what I already had in my cabinet. So here is what I did, let's call it:

Fiona's Coco and Cloves Henna Treatment

I used -

100g of Jamila Henna
1 c. Hershey's Naturally Unsweetened Cocoa

Cloves (boiled the cloves stems until the water was a deep chocolate color)

Shakakai powder
Alma powder (to prevent the stretching of my curls)
Honey
Green Tea (boiled again)

Cloves/Green Tea Mix
I mixed the Henna/Shakakai/Alma Powder in my "henna bowl". I continued to pour the clove/green tea water in the mix until I received a cake batter consistancy. Last thing I added was a couple of teaspoons of honey. I let this sit overnight before I applied. Did the whole henna process (will blog about that later).... Let it marinate for like 14 hours.. during this time I cut my yard, put up Christmas lights, cooked and walked my dog.

It was easy to wash out. Deep conditioned with my homemade hair butter and olive oil mix. I used my Shea Moisture's Raw Shea Butter Conditioner as a styler.

I will post more photos when I take down my protective style.

My over all experience: I loved the outcome, it toned down the roots. Thanks to the
ladies on the CurlyNikki Hair Forum. Sorry this was a long one.

UPDATE:  Finished Product

Fiona is pretty happy!
